A proactive Client Senior Project Manager is needed to provide project delivery services on significant marine, port, tunnel, road, bridge, transit and rail projects.

Current construction projects include various heavy civil work across Vancouver and British Columbia, including marine, port, tunnel, road, bridge, and a variety of transit and rail projects.

The company portfolio of civil engineering and rail projects is at various stages of pre-construction development and live on-site construction.

The scope of work to be undertaken includes design development and costing, and live site-based construction and project management, often right from the RPF stage.

The successful candidate will be employed to manage one or more civil engineering and infrastructure projects, often from concept to delivery;

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing front-end processes and decision-making on a day-to-day basis.

The civil engineering and transit projects are large long-term projects and include keynote large provincial transit rail and infrastructure expansion projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Senior Project Management job role based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, is a hands-on management position that will require capability and experience to:

• Act as a proactive Client Project Manager to provide client project delivery services and to manage and motivate the broader delivery team to deliver optimal outcomes
• Understand and fully perform the role of client engineer project manager to achieve successful project delivery
• Be able to successfully coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including multiple engineering consultants, environmental, construction, communications, legal, and other project participants.
• Lead from the front with a strong work ethic, analytical, decision-making approach, and mindset.
• Able to take responsibility for questioning and interrogating situations to ensure civil engineering contractors achieve the best possible project delivery performance.
• Take responsibility for a team-leading and managing others – both internal and external to the organisation engaged in project delivery.
• Able to proactively engage stakeholders early to develop and build confidence and trust in the processes that will ensure success
• Be willing and able to explain and justify decisions made and also the decision-making process undertaken by the client and senior stakeholders in the project.
• Understand ‘buildability’ issues and have experience dealing with constructability analysis, risk management, design management, and interface matters.
• Able to review design solutions to ensure optimisation from a constructability viewpoint.
• Work as a team to take multiple concurrent projects through the critical design stages of Feasibility, Business Case Preparation, Preliminary Design, Schematic Design, e.t.c.
• Be able to Project Manage a significant infrastructure project from the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage right through to live construction.
• Able to demonstrate an intimate knowledge and understanding of the design, scope and project contract documents relating to all infrastructure projects within remit
• Able to oversee and contribute to the management of project planning, budget control, risk and procurement matters, including reviewing technical proposals and closing financial considerations
• Able to develop and manage project contracting strategies, including packaging of work to optimise future performance
• Fully understand the design and procurement stage from previous owners’ engineer experience, and be able to project manage this key stage into and right through the site construction phase.
• Take responsibility for client delivery and interface management with other parties and stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Suitable Senior Project Manager candidates must have extensive experience in complex client management processes.
• Senior Project Manager job candidates should demonstrate previous experience having management responsibility for a client delivery team on a significant infrastructure.
• Previous construction project management experience on heavy civil engineering infrastructure or projects of CAD$50m+ in value is preferred.
• Previous project management and engineering experience in roads, highways, interchanges, bridges, transit, railways, heavy civils, ports, and marine works.
• It is anticipated that suitable candidates will have c10-15 years of experience working on heavy civil engineering projects, mainly in client project management.
• Senior Project Manager applicants must have worked for a civil engineering consulting engineer or construction project management consultancy.
• Senior Project Managers must be fully experienced in performing client-side project management processes and responsibilities and be able to innovate and add value to the construction process.
• Some early career civil engineering experience with a civil engineering contractor would be advantageous to assist.
• Priority will be given to suitable candidates that are Canadian citizens or have the right to work in Canada, although anyone with practical experience is welcome to apply.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• A degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Engineering is highly desirable.
• PEng Chartered Engineer status is also highly desirable – registration in good standing as an engineer in British Columbia, Canada, is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Project and specialist construction project management software is required.
• Priority will be given to suitable candidates that are Canadian citizens or have the right to work in Canada, although anyone with practical experience is welcome to apply.
