Job Description

The Senior Business Development Manager will be expected to make a significant and impactful leadership contribution as part of this newly formed team. This person will be responsible for devising and implementing the growth campaign strategy, focusing on a select number of mega projects where Bechtel can positively impact customer outcomes. Bringing high emotional intelligence, a critical thinking mindset and a creative approach to client relationship development, this leader will help to refine our value proposition for customers and collaborate with colleagues across the globe to bring customers the benefits of Bechtel’s depth, scale, and experience.The successful candidate will be a high-integrity leader, possess superior customer engagement skills, and effectively develop trust, credibility and Bechtel brand recognition across government and commercial customers. Bringing to bear a depth of knowledge and experience of capital project delivery, combined with a high degree of commercial astuteness, the appointee will be responsible for our strategic pursuits, leading the strategy and execution of targeted bids with a particular emphasis on the transformational investment in rail infrastructure. The Senior Business Development Manager – Northeast Corridor (NEC), will report to John Williams – Principal Vice President Bechtel Corporation & President Bechtel Northeast, USA & Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Led developing and validating a targeted growth strategy, including the value proposition and Bechtel’s differentiators within the value chain.
  • Ensure internal alignment on the strategy, refinement of the value proposition, target prospect list and resources required to implement.
  • Develop customer relationship development plans, building brand advocacy and trust amongst a select network of individual customers and partners in the rail sector.
  • Be highly tuned to local customer culture, with experience or knowledge of the region, to appreciate customer sensitivities. This includes an ability to think, act, and communicate strategically, an appreciation for dynamics between decision-makers and influencers, and an ability to operate at all organizational levels.
  • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to network and build internal and external relationships.
  • Establish Bechtel within the region as the positive brand of choice for customers and partners to support mega infrastructure projects.
  • Utilizing analytics to support commercial and contractual strategy development, leveraging qualitative and quantitative data analysis in decision-making and deriving value.
  • Use marketing principles to develop and implement the region’s external branding and marketing initiatives to establish Bechtel’s corporate value proposition, including developing proposal win plans and guiding market intelligence.
  • Follow up on projects won and lost to determine why Bechtel was not selected.

Skills

  • Be able to share a track record of success in leading major capital project pursuits, particularly in the professional services environment.
  • Experience leading the strategy and execution of targeted bids with a particular emphasis on the transformational investment in rail infrastructure.
  • Bring high emotional intelligence to the role, be an active listener and be an effective builder of teams and relationships.
  • Possess vital leadership attributes, with evidence of leading by example in developing new business opportunities and an ability to influence at all levels across functions and departments.

  • Demonstrate market awareness, commercial astuteness, and an entrepreneurial mindset required to develop and drive a strategic growth plan and delivery focus to steer teams to win new prospects.
  • Experience utilizing an analytical approach to commercial and contractual strategy development.
  • Demonstrate strong strategic thinking, with an ability to navigate effectively between business strategy and prospect tactics, balancing efforts toward both short-term and long-term objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess a relevant bachelor’s degree
  • Have 10-15+ years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrating a proven track record of successfully developing and implementing strategies in similar markets, including winning and negotiating significant scaled professional services deals on projects with total installed costs of $1BN+.
  • Experience in managing complex stakeholder environments, bringing a blend of technical and commercial knowledge to enable effective deal structuring.
  • Experience in the Rail industry with in-depth knowledge of NEC rail customers

Average Salary:£ Negotiable
