The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is a federal law enforcement agency that is responsible for border control (i.e. protection and surveillance), immigration enforcement, and customs services in Canada.

The CBSA Officer employs border officers who is also known as Border Services Officers (BSO) or Border Patrol officers (BPO), Customer officers, and Customs agents

• They are responsible for administering legislation that governs the admission of people and goods, plants and animals into and out of Canada

• Candidates must complete the Officer Trainee Entrance Exam (OTEE), an online exam consisting of 132 multiple-choice questions.
• After passing the exam, you will be invited to an interview to assess the candidate following competencies based on values, integrity, judgment, communication abilities, and ability to deal with challenging situations.
• Thereafter, you have to successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Courses and pass the applicable tests.
• Physical fitness evaluation
• Secret security clearance
• Psychological assessment
• Medical exam
• After all these processes you will be notified of the outcome

Take note that due to extensive testing required, the process can take up to 18 months.

Salary Of The CBSA

• While attending the CBSA College you will receive paid accommodations and meals, and an allowance of $125 per week to cover basic living expenses.
• As a trainee your annual salary will be $69,423 to $77,302 (FB-02). Rates of pay are subject to change upon the signing of a new collective agreement.
• Upon successful completion of the development program at an assigned port of entry, you will become a border services officer. Your annual salary will increase to $75,100 to $89,068 (FB-03).
• You might also be entitled to a bilingual bonus if you occupy a bilingual position.
