Mercer Canada is seeking a Wealth Defined Benefit Investment Consultant for our Toronto office:

Responsibilities

1. The Consultant focuses on ensuring Mercer delivers customized Defined Benefit investment consulting services to clients with an emphasis on the efficient implementation of standard solutions, but the ability to contribute to the delivery of more complex solutions as well
2. The Consultant also manages and develops analysts on internal client teams to ensure operational excellence and efficiency, and participates in selling Mercer services and solutions to existing clients
3. To fulfil this role, the Consultant will be the lead consultant on small clients and/or second on medium to large clients, and may also play a key role on some of our largest clients.
4. This entails having shared responsibility for the Wealth business’ client relationship and client financials.

Tasks

1. The Consultant in this role will deliver investment consulting advice and services to advisory and OCIO clients and be a key project manager for activity on larger clients
2. Act as the main point of contact for the client on some client teams or projects.
3. Liaise with other lines of business and/or other geographies to coordinate service delivery
4. Demonstrate knowledge of core investment strategies and support plan sponsors in selecting the appropriate investment strategies
5. Develop relationships to continue supporting the commercial success and expansion of Mercer’s services
6. Peer review reports, adding client-specific information and ensuring client suitability
7. Manage client-related assignments and ensure on-time delivery
8. Manage a variety of projects independently
9. Project manage investment performance monitoring, investment manager searches, asset-liability studies and other investment-related projects.
10. Possibly be a member of the Asset Liability Modelling group in Toronto
11. Delegate, manage, and review analysis and client work by analysts.
12. Create project work plans and monitor timelines and budgets.

Benefits

1. Bachelor’s degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, Finance or a related field
2. 4+ years of pension-related work experience, preferably in a Consulting environment
3. Successful client relationship experience
4. Ability to project manage asset-liability studies and present results to clients
5. Proven project management experience
6. Superior proficiency in Microsoft Excel
7. Strong independence but also a collegial team player
8. Willingness to share ideas and voice opinions
9. Strong communication skills.

Requirements

1. Willingness to learn and to think outside of the box
2. ALM technical expertise or aptitude would be an asset but not required
3. CFA would be an asset but not required
