What Is AusNet Service?

AusNet Services is the manager and operator of the high-voltage electricity transmission network in Victoria and is Victoria’s sole transmission network service provider (TNSP) in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Operations

AusNet Services operates three energy networks in Victoria, Australia:

1. High voltage and extra high voltage electric transmission network in Victoria (66kV and above)
2. low voltage and medium voltage electric distribution network in Victoria (22kV and below) (one of five electricity distributors in Victoria, covering eastern Victoria and eastern/northeastern suburbs of Melbourne).
3. Gas distribution network in Victoria (one of three gas distributors in Victoria).

Entry Requirement For The AusNet Service Jobs

1. The independence and legitimacy of the Customer Forum members were of primary importance in the selection process.
2. Members were required to be fully independent of AusNet Services and capable of credibly representing the perspective of the breadth of AusNet Services’ customers.
3. Members of the Customer Forum could not be currently employed or engaged by AusNet Services or the Australian Energy Regulator.
4. Should not have criminal convictions
5. Not have been disqualified from acting as a director
6. Have not undertaken activities deemed to have had significant adverse consequences for consumers.
7. Customer Forum members were selected through a skills-based assessment approach consistent with the New Reg Process.

Selection Process For The AusNet Service Job

1. Following receipt of the applications, AusNet Services will ask the candidates to allow their details to be shared with the AER and Energy Consumers Australia, which will be consulted on the recruitment of the Forum.
2. AusNet Services will shortlist the candidates, and these shortlisted candidates will be tested with the AER and ECA.
3. After which, interviews will be conducted with a shortlist of candidates.
4. The interview process tested the candidate’s understanding of the Customer Forum’s role, their ability to represent the perspectives of customers, their understanding of consumer issues, and their analytical ability through the use of a short case study.
5. After the above process, there will be a selection of those recruited. In finalizing the selection,  obtaining an appropriate mix of skills will be the primary objective.
6. It was also important that at least one Customer Forum member be an existing AusNet Services electricity distribution customer.
7. The candidates selected can now accept their appointment to the forum.
