There are various types of scholarships, the most common being merit-based and need-based. The donor or department funding the Scholarship sets the criteria for recipient selection, and the grantor defines explicitly how the money is to be applied.

The funds are used to defray the costs of tuition, books, room, board and other expenses directly tied to students’ educational prices through the University.

The United Kingdom provides a comprehensive scholarship program to incoming, current, and rising graduates, whether foreign or native. Scholarships are typically awarded using a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, academic achievement, departmental and community involvement, employment experience, areas of study, and financial need.

Fully funded University of Cambridge Scholarship

The Cambridge Trust offers scholarships for undergraduate students who pay the university composition fee at the overseas rate.

All scholarships are available only for study at the University of Cambridge and require that you use the University via the standard online application form and by the relevant deadline (please see below for deadlines). UK and EU undergraduate students should apply to the Cambridge Bursary Scheme.

Eligibility

These are guidelines on eligibility for scholarships that are available from the Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust:

Nationality

All students, irrespective of nationality, are eligible to be considered for funding by the Trust.

Status

The Trust does not accept applications from students who are part-way through a course at Cambridge unless they apply for funding for a higher degree course following graduation. Degree level

Applicants must intend to start a course at the level of:

  • Undergraduate (excluding UK applicants)
  • Masters (such as MPhil, MASt, LLM)
  • Research postgraduate (such as PhD)

The Trust does not offer full-cost scholarships for MBA or MFin programmes. The Trust will consider co-funding students on MBA and MFin programmes nominated to us by funding partners (who may have their procedures for applying).

Please note that the Trust does not offer many scholarships to students on undergraduate courses and has many more scholarship programmes available to postgraduate students. Approximately 85% of yearly scholarships are awarded to Masters or PhD students.

The Trust will not typically support students at a degree level that is the same as, or lower than, a degree they already hold, with two exceptions – we will consider an application from a student who is required to take a second master’s degree at Cambridge to gain admission to the PhD here, or from an international student who is proposing to study as an affiliated student at Cambridge for a second BA degree.

The Trust does not offer scholarships for post-doctoral positions or visiting or exchange students. Most students register for full-time study, but in the interests of widening participation, the Trust can consider applications from students for part-time study where the University offers such courses.

Subject

Applicants may study any subject currently available at the University.

Application and Admission

All students must be admitted to the University of Cambridge through the standard application procedures. The University sets minimum standards – check the requirements for undergraduates and postgraduates. The Trust plays no role in the admission of applicants to the University and cannot influence the chances of an applicant being offered a place.

Also, check the information on application deadlines for undergraduates and postgraduates. Applicants are encouraged to meet the entry requirements of the University as early as possible, including (if necessary) the completion of an English language test.

The Trust is committed to equality of opportunity. No applicant will be treated less favourably than another on the grounds of sex (including gender reassignment), marital or parental status, race, ethnic or national origin, colour, disability, sexual orientation, religion or age.

The primary consideration in selecting Scholars will be the applicant’s ability to meet the selection criteria for each Scholarship. Some scholarships, fully or partially funded by partners of the Trust, are allocated to students of particular nationalities or studying specific subjects.

Application Process

There are different procedures for applying for undergraduate study (BA and similar) and postgraduate study (Master, PhD and equivalent). You must have used for admission to the University by the relevant deadline (see below) and have a conditional offer of admission to be considered for Cambridge Trust funding.

If a separate application is required, you must have applied to the University by the relevant deadline (see below) and have a conditional offer of admission in conjunction with submitting the separate application to be considered.

Deadlines

Undergraduate study The UCAS application deadline for 2024 entry is 15 October 2024, 6.00 pm (UK time). If you are applying for undergraduate study and wish to be interviewed in Malaysia or Singapore, the deadline is 21 September 2024. However, there are some exceptions.
