ABOUT THE ROLE
The purpose of the Associate Publisher is to support Publishers in the management and development of their portfolios of titles through analysis and research, including to support acquisitions and new launches, with the overall aim of supporting the departmental contribution towards divisional goals. Some key accountabilities include:
- Support the management and development of a portfolio of high-value society contracts to a degree of excellence that enhances OUP’s standing in the learned society and publishing landscape.
- Work with the Publisher, Senior Publisher or Executive Publisher to respond to queries and requests from societies and editors in a fast-paced and effective manner.
- Build strong relationships with Editors and key society contacts.
- Provide data analysis to enable evidence-based decision-making for strategic/editorial development of journals, including:
- Bibliometric analysis to understand drivers for impact factor
- Competitor analysis
- Emerging trends and funder analysis
- New journal launches
- Content growth.
- Analyze subject-level trends in science to inform portfolio- and journal-level strategies around market share and financial growth, including identifying potential areas to launch new titles, opportunities for proactive outreach and acquisitions activities, and tactics for growing output and increasing the impact of existing titles.
- Work collaboratively and productively with other functional groups (production, marketing, digital, finance, data) to deliver an excellent service to social partners.
- Creating reports summarizing insights from data analysis suitable for various internal and external stakeholders and delivering or supporting Publishers to deliver those reports.
- Attend editorial board meetings, ad hoc meetings or conferences as required, presenting reports on behalf of OUP alongside the Publisher and explaining how analysis supports publishing and editorial strategies. This may include international travel, weekends and evenings.
- Provide analysis and insight for newly acquired titles, new launches in the portfolio, and upcoming renewals.
- Assist with implementation of projects that scale across the journals program and other analyses as required.
ABOUT YOU
- Some publishing or transferable professional experience
- An understanding of academic publishing, including editorial processes, production processes, marketing, industry trends, systems, competitors, and technology.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt reporting to suit different stakeholders.
- Strong data analysis skills and experience.
This role is a part-time position, working 21-hour work weeks
Position Location: This role can be hybrid based out of New York, NY or remote in the United States
