Job Description.
They are looking for a Copy Editor / Proofreader who can help us elevate their brand communications in the fast-paced world of IT tech. Using their Brand Style Guide as a baseline, they will need you to help their messaging stay consistent and be agile enough to understand—and suggest—where changes and exceptions should be made.Beyond basic grammar and typos, you’ll be a brand voice and tone steward while flagging potential reputation risks. They are N-able.
An emerging leader in the IT tech industry. Its mission is to inspire and empower IT service providers to bring cloud-based solutions to businesses worldwide.
A copy editor’s job is to help a writer choose the right words. A proofreader’s job is to ensure nothing else technical (like incorrect spelling) distracts the reader. Sometimes, an editor can provide both editing styles or even higher-concept edits.
A proofreader will look for misspellings, incorrect/missed punctuation, inconsistencies (textual and numerical), etc. Conversely, editing corrects issues at the core of writing, like sentence construction and language clarity. Thorough editing will help improve the text’s readability, clarity, and tone.
The two differences are pretty simple to understand once they are explained. They can be summed up in two sentences: Copyeditors catch all the mistakes the author missed. Proofreaders catch all the mistakes the copyeditor missed.
