The technician is an expert technical resource reporting to a program manager, interacting with Onsite Engineering Operations (OEO) and third-party vendors.

They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center and to support operated data centers.

Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

Responsibilties

1. Render assistance in administration and regulation of the duties of junior technicians and provide oversight of contractors’ roles for electrical responsibilities.
2. Analyze systems requirements, conducts research on equipment and procedures, and recommend modifications to new and existing systems.
3. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines, relies on MOPs, manufacturer’s literature, and industry best practices to perform tasks.
4. Utilizes safe working practices; can apply lockout/tag out, MSDS, suitable housekeeping methods, etc.
5. Ability to type and utilize standard administrative and office software.
6. Troubleshoot, repair, and modify malfunctioning electronic units like printed circuit boards, set up sensing mechanisms, and advanced electrical circuits.
7. Performs maintenance, installations, and service repairs on critical data center systems and all industrial electrical equipment.
8. To ensure efficient operation, systems include power distribution components/wiring, electronic components, and lighting systems throughout the data center campus.
9. Capable of utilizing appropriate test equipment, including infrared scanning and vibration analyzing meter, of performing system and equipment diagnostics.
10. Ensures activities are logged in CMMS.
11. When necessary, perform daily walk-through of facility documenting parameters such as power availability, temperature, humidity, alarm status, etc., to be cataloged.
12. Compared to the identification of discrepancies and trends.
13. Monitor and make necessary changes to site BAS, following site MOP’s & SOP’s. Manages mechanical and electrical systems in emergencies, including HVAC components, power distribution equipment, generator systems, load transfer, and control systems.
14. Identify required materials and parts for maintenance and repair; prepares and present cost estimates for details, equipment, and supplies for proposed installation or repairs.
15. Maintain relationships with all significant vendor accounts.
16. Schedule, coordinate, and oversee all critical environment vendors during maintenance and emergency.
17. Break/fix events to ensure personnel safety and maintain power to the critical load.
18. Set up and operate electrical data capturing devices (Dranetz, Fluke PQA, etc.).
19. Create required MOPs and SOPs; perform periodic technical and quality reviews of all MOPs and SOPs to ensure that the most “up-to-date” techniques and safety guidelines are utilized.
20. Collect and generate internal and vendor field service reports describing all activities (preventive maintenance, repairs, etc.).
21. Develop reliability reports to assist in identifying areas for increased efficiency and resiliency or to mitigate unplanned downtime.
22. Conduct training with junior technicians and other staff personnel on electrical equipment/systems for maintenance, repairs, and operation.

Requirements

1. Ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance or Active TS Clearance Required
2. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, floor plans, construction documents, safety requirements, OEM operating and maintenance instructions, job specifications, and MOP’s.
3. At least six years of experience and a high school diploma or equivalent, and must possess a Journeyman Electrician License.
4. Organize safe maintenance principles for regulating and scheduling planned and unplanned activities and establish and meet deadlines for work/projects. Master Electrical license preferred. Electrical OEM factory-specific training or experience preferred.
5. Interprets building codes and local and federal installation regulations and applies them as the site requires.
6. Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations.
7. Operate and inspect emergency power generation and reliability equipment; determine systems are functioning correctly.
8. Maintenance is performed per MOPs, manufacturer’s literature, and industry best practices.
9. Ability to utilize hand tools and test equipment to perform maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
10. Analyze, plan, and perform Preventive Maintenance of Electrical systems throughout the facility.
11. Must be able to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
