Job Description.
Mechanical engineers design power-producing machines, such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, steam and gas turbines, and power-using machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Mechanical engineers design other machines inside buildings, such as elevators and escalators.
In a context of constant growth and development of its activities, VAISALA France SAS is hiring a Lead Mechanical Engineer M/F.Reporting to the R&D Director, you will lead and drive the mechanical engineering design and the engineering resources to deliver on-time LIDAR mechanical sub-systems complying with Quality, Cost, and Delivery commitments, applying Mechanical Domain instructions, processes & tools.
Responsibilities.
- Follow the mechanical domain deliverables with the design team.
- Study and analyze the specifications and the feasibility of mechanical components.
- Propose a schedule for each development with resource allocation.
- Generate design concepts reaching optimal functionality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
- Contribute to mechanical design realization.
- Interact with suppliers for technical questions linked to the new cost-savings or manufacturability concepts.
- Organize prototyping and testing activities to validate new technologies/products.
- Verification of design requirements/chosen concept.
- Release of Design for production.
- Management of the mechanical team.
- Support the transfer of technology and knowledge from R&D to industrialization.
- Provide technical support to other departments when needed (operations, marketing, etc.).
- Product data package management.
Requirements.
University or high school degree in Mechanics, and a minimum of 8 years of Mechanical Designer experience in an industrial environment.
- Proven experience in leading a design team.
- Strong CAD 3D experience, preferably Solidworks.
- Good knowledge of man manufacturing processes (plastic injection, sheet metal, machining, surface treatments, etc…).
- Knowledge of general mechanical quality standards and associated good practices.
- Internally motivated, able to work proficiently independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills with both internal team members and external business stakeholders.
- Strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes.
- Team management experience.
- Creativity, ability to innovate.
- Optomechanical knowledge is a plus.
- Fluent in English and French.
