Director

The Director manages all aspects of student-related accessibility matters, coordinates reasonable accommodations for equitable access for students with disabilities, and ensures that the Accessibility Resource Center serves as a resource to faculty, staff, students, and the campus community through consultation, education, advocacy, and engagement on accessibility-related issues.

Responsibilities.

  • Responsible for monitoring University compliance with all laws and regulations relating to people with disabilities and promoting through policy access, equity, and inclusion.
  • Facilitates support services and accommodations for students with disabilities; evaluates documentation and determines reasonable accommodations/modifications.
  • Provides students with documented disabilities counselling and advisement to assist in the achievement of educational and career goals from preadmission through graduation.
  • Develops and implements policy, procedures and practices for the Accessibility Resource Center; plans assesses and evaluates programs and services.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and supervises the Accessibility Resource Center staff.
  • Provides referrals to other departments on campus and/or external agencies that can provide services to students with documented disabilities.
  • Serves as a resource person and provides support and leadership to other units within the University community regarding matters related to students who are differently abled. This includes but is not limited to, ensuring that classroom environments are accessible and that the universal design framework is being applied where possible.
  • Researches issues and case law relating to the application of accommodations and best practices.
  • Manages the departmental budget.
  • Partners with Student Diversity & Inclusion, the Counseling, Health & Wellness Center, and the Social Worker for Student Support and Resources, among others, to ensure that student needs are being adequately met.
  • Represents the Accessibility Resource Center at the New Jersey Association of
  • Higher Education and Disability Meetings, Open Houses, orientations, Seminars, Conferences, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.

Requirements.

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable discipline including counselling, psychology social work, education, or another related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of increasingly responsible experience within accessibility/disability services.
  • Experience evaluating disability documentation, including medical, psychoeducational, and psychological evaluations, and training others to do the same, in order to determine and provide accommodations.
  • Experience effectively managing personnel and operating budgets.
  • Ability to work effectively in an online environment using commonly used platforms such as Zoom and Teams.
  • Additional, preferred qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to interpret and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and another applicable state, local, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and use assessment data to improve systems and services provided.
