It is based in Washington, DC, with an office in Bangalore, India. Mpower Financing offers its student loans to students who cannot typically qualify for a loan from other banks or lenders unless they have a co-signer or collateral.
Mpower Financing lends to students who are within two years from graduation. Students who benefit from these services typically are international students or domestic students whose parents do not have the credit history to cosign, as well as recipients of DACA.
Mpower Financing’s services are available at 350 university and college programs as of March 2018. Around 90% of its borrowers are in graduate school.

2. MPOWER Refugee Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:
- Be accepted at or enrolled in a full-time degree program at a U.S. or Canadian school that MPOWER supports, and
- Be an international student allowed to legally study in the U.S. or Canada, as applicable, through one of the following:
- Be a refugee or asylee from any country (or pursuing such status)
- Have Temporary Protected Status
- Be a beneficiary of Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status
- You do not need to apply for a loan with MPOWER but are welcome to.
- American and Canadian citizens/permanent residents and those with other immigration statuses are not eligible for this scholarship.
3. Empowering Women in STEM
In keeping with MPOWER’s commitment to empower high-potential global citizens to realize their educational aspirations — and become tomorrow’s leading scientists and innovators — this scholarship program focuses on women who will use their STEM degree to benefit society and the planet and who have the potential to serve as role models and advocates for women in STEM.
The National Center for Education Statistics reported that 32 percent of STEM degrees in the U.S. were awarded to women in one year.
Women majoring in computer engineering, nuclear science, and software development, amongst others, should not have to find funding for their dream a challenge.
