Description
Entrance scholarships are monetary awards given to students who demonstrate one or more of the following: academic excellence, leadership abilities, extra-curricular involvement, and research proposals. Some entrance scholarships require students to apply, but many are awarded automatically based on the student’s admission average.
A scholarship is an award of money to help pay for your university study. Entrance scholarships are available for full-time, first-year undergraduate study. The University of Otago offers a range of undergraduate entrance scholarships that recognize academic excellence, leadership qualities, ethnicity, financial hardship, disability, and excellence in sporting or cultural pursuits.
If the candidate lives in a residential college, the Scholarship will help with the candidate’s costs or possibly cover those costs entirely. If you have a fee-free first year, you can use your Scholarship for your fees in your second year of study.
If you are an international student, your Scholarship will be paid as a credit to your tuition fees. About the applications for specific scholarships, do not worry cause based on the information you provide, you will be considered for all applicable scholarships and awards open on the date we receive your application.
International applicants who have completed Years 12 and 13 in a New Zealand school or the University of Otago Pathway, Te Huarahi program (or an equivalent foundation course at another New Zealand tertiary institution) are eligible for many of the same entrance scholarships available to domestic students and can apply by the same process.
International applicants (both in New Zealand and offshore) are also eligible for a dedicated international scholarship, the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students.
