The RBC Canadian Banking Product Finance team is using big data to answer some of our toughest finance questions.

They are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated co-op student that will help us continue to uncover and discover key business indicators using their big data production environment as well as redefine.

Examples of interesting projects that you may encounter during the term of your co-op could be building analytics and trending dashboards, reinventing process flows and building out and automating team capabilities.

Tasks

1. Design, deliver, and implement analytic development projects, with the use of RBC’s analytics tools
2. Ensure that project activities are accomplished within approved time frames, scope, and budgets
3. Confirm that projects adhere to development standards and guidelines
4. Work with data warehouses on various projects
5. Build out a robust production data ecosystem using big data tools
6. Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive and high-performing team
7. Ability to make a real impact on the bank and have decisions that will change how we do business

Requirements

1. Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, business analysis
2. Leadership acumen and a passion to apply it effectively and concisely in a dynamic business environment
3. Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
4. Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
5. Strong MS Office skills – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
6. Programming languages (SQL and VBA)
7. The ability to deal with problems that are not well defined and create clear and concise solutions with feedback from many users.

Other Requirements

1. Knowledge of design, development, and implementation utilizing current analytics technologies and architecture, as well as data warehouse concepts and methodologies
2. Relational database concepts and design experience
3. Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and systems) quickly and apply new knowledge
4. Experience or understanding of open-source software frameworks (Hadoop), data visualization tools (Tableau)
5. Ability to use big data tools (Datameer) and concepts to build robust, simple and agile data processes.
