What you’ll do:

Technical

  1. Support the High Voltage electrical engineering design scope for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects, particularly in the renewables industry.
  2. Involvement in conceptual design and feasibility studies, primary and secondary electrical plant specification, design review and verification, and substation layout development.
  3. Determine connection capacity, configuration, and transmission route options for renewable energy and BESS projects.
  4. Provide peer review, and advice to power system studies work streams & feasibility design and detailed design projects (substations, lines, renewable energy generators).
  5. Checking/verification of design work undertaken by other team members.
  6. Visit remote sites to witness construction or commissioning work and review associated QA documentation.
  7. Provide technical input into relevant energy bids.
  8. Provide high-level CAPEX and OPEX estimates for energy projects.

Project delivery

  1. Follow the WSP seller-doer model (build good relationships with customers, secure work, and work with the team to deliver the work).
  2. Monitor and manage the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
  3. Development of project execution methodology and plans for small to medium consulting engagements, including design management, quality, risk management, and overarching project execution plan.
  4. Ensuring projects are delivered to time and cost budgets and meeting or exceeding client expectations
  5. Design management and inter-discipline coordination

Business development, bids, and proposals

  1. Coordinating, writing, and compiling multi-discipline bids
  2. Contribute to group strategy for renewables
  3. Increase market awareness of WSP’s capability through the presentation of papers or facilitation of panel discussions at key Australian conferences
  4. Identifying, pursuing, and converting business opportunities for the group
  5. Participate in industry bodies such as CIGRE or Clean Energy Council

Team

  1. Industry knowledge sharing – work towards presentation at external conferences on relevant topics
  2. Disseminate knowledge within broader WSP, liaise with international counterparts on knowledge sharing
  3. Development and coaching of other practitioners
  4. Recognize the achievements and successes of peers
  5. Assist managers in the selection and recruitment of employees.

Commercial

  1. Estimation of effort-hours and assessment of risk on bids for renewable projects
  2. Understand commercial drivers and KPIs of the group and contribute to decision-making accordingly
  3. Basic understanding of contracts for consulting services, associated risks, and commercial matters
  4. Provide support to contract negotiation, scope management, variations, and EOTs.
  5. Maintain a code of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) & ethics

About you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical or Electronic Engineering) or Equivalent.
  • Chartered status (CPEng)
  • Typically, 15+ years experience. Minimum of 5 years experience in a consultancy environment.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical details to a non-technical audience.
  • Balances innovation, quality, and technical excellence with delivery to timelines and budget.
  • Open to receiving and providing constructive feedback.
  • Well-developed report writing skills, including technical and grammar.
  • Liaise with other disciplines within WSP in report and proposal preparation.
  • Lead and foster a good safety culture to ensure the safety and well-being of all team members.
  • Working knowledge of the critical standards and practices used in the power industry in Australia.
  • Proven ability to provide key technical expertise across a broad range of projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and reviewing complex technical project reports.
  • Competent in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and sizes and guiding the work of others, including day-to-day work and variations
  • Uphold and promote compliance with Australian Standards and relevant regulatory acts of legislation and good electricity industry practice.
