SUMMARY:
The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Texas A&M University-Commerce is seeking to fill an open-rank faculty position for an individual with experience in waterfowl research and management. Candidates with a strong scholarly background and extramural research support will also be evaluated for tenure upon hiring, presenting a unique opportunity. This position entails a 9-month academic appointment, with a focus on research (60%), teaching (30%), and service (10%). The anticipated commencement date for this position is August 15, 2024.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use wetland and waterfowl habitat knowledge, experience, and expertise to establish an externally funded research program addressing waterfowl management and conservation needs in Texas and, if relevant, in areas outside of Texas commensurate with currently funded research programs.
- Expected to be integral to establishing and expanding a nationally recognized center for game bird research.
- Work with existing faculty members, both on and off-campus, state and federal agencies, NGOs, landowners, and other important stakeholders.
- Teaching related courses in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
- Developing an externally funded independent research program that incorporates undergraduate and graduate students.
- Service activities will include university and departmental committees, but will primarily focus on activities that promote the support and success of the Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Ph.D. in avian biology, wildlife management, conservation science, or a closely related field with a research focus on waterfowl biology.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Must exhibit a proven and ongoing track record of conducting independent research, securing substantial funding, and publishing high-quality research papers. Must exhibit effective communication and coordination skills both internally and externally with private landowners and conservation partners. Must showcase a commitment to excel in grant procurement, research endeavors, and publishing activities. Must display a strong inclination toward establishing and nurturing robust teaching programs while providing unwavering support to undergraduate and graduate education initiatives.
