They are looking to hire a Corporate Secretary to lead the Office of the Corporate Secretary reporting to the EVP & General Counsel in what is a critical role supporting the Board of Directors and executive management.
Responsibilities
- Provide governance leadership for the Emera group of companies in support of Emera’s strategy and business objectives.
- Ensure Emera’s compliance with the rules of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), Barbados Stock
- Exchange (BSE), Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX) and securities commissions.
- Be responsible for supporting the operation of Emera’s Board of Directors and Committees, including the preparation of meeting minutes.
- Maintain and manage Emera’s corporate records, including responding to requests for corporate information.
- Support Emera’s executive management, including management’s relationship with the Board of Directors.
- Prepare for the holding of Emera’s annual meeting of shareholders and support Emera’s reputation for governance in the eyes of investors.
- Advance Emera’s corporate governance, which includes advising on best practices in corporate governance for the Emera group of companies.

- The role requires significant knowledge and experience in the areas of corporate and commercial law, securities rules, and corporate governance, knowledge of complex corporate structures, processes, and people, and knowledge of Emera businesses.
- Collaborative stakeholder management skills, robust planning, and delivery capabilities to ensure Group-wide deliverables.
