The New Zealand Police is the national police force of New Zealand, responsible for enforcing criminal law, enhancing public safety, and maintaining order

Requirement For The NZ Police Recruitment Application

  1. You be a New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency status, and be living in New Zealand permanently
  2. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and
  3. Must hold a full driver’s licence when the recruit graduates from the Royal New Zealand Police College
  4. You have to pass psychological, numeracy, spoken English and abstract reasoning assessments
  5. Applicants must pass physical fitness and eyesight tests
  6. You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  7. 18 weeks of training at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua, Wellington
  8. Two years of supervised frontline police work, during which a trainee officer undertakes a series of workplace assessments
  9. A compulsory university distance-learning course.
  10. Excellent fitness and health
  11. Good hearing
  12. Normal color vision
  13. Good eyesight (minimum binocular visual standard of about 6/12 unaided).
  14. Notify police of any convictions – some convictions, such as for drunk driving, violence, drugs or dishonesty offences, will result in an application being automatically rejected.

Recruitment Process For The NZ Application

Once you have fully met the requirement listed above you can go ahead with your application

  • Go the application site to create a profile
  • Once they have received your application, they’ll use the information to complete initial background checks on you
  • When you progress in this stage in the process, you’ll be asked to complete your psychometric testing online.
  • After the online testing, you will be emailed on a health questionnaire to complete online.
  • Assessing your completed questionnaire may then take our Recruitment Medicals team around three weeks.
  • You will be emailed a Recruit Additional Information Form & CV for you to complete to provide them with further information about your background, which they use to run further background checks.
  • After this, You’ll need to pass a PAT at least twice during the recruitment process: both the Initial PAT and Final PAT (8-12 weeks before arriving at Police College)
  • At this point, you’ll be invited to attend a formal interview with a Selection Specialist who will be looking for qualities essential for Police Officers.
  • After this, there will be a background and Final Checks
  • After these processes, once you make it to the Candidate Pool it means you’ve successfully met all of the selection requirements and you have the potential to train at Police College called Wings.
  • The planning process for a wing commences around three to four months before the start date of each wing.
